About

Full-stack & AI engineer, remote

I spent twelve years in healthcare, the last several as a paramedic, before I ever wrote production code. Emergency medicine teaches you triage, root-cause analysis under pressure, and documentation that someone else’s decisions will depend on. It turns out that is most of engineering.

I moved into IT on a help desk in 2021, and two years later I was the sole ServiceNow administrator for the company. I stood the platform up from a bare instance with no handover and owned its configuration, security, automation, and releases while staying the help desk for everyone in the building. Being both the person who builds the system and the person who answers for it when it misbehaves is where my habits around access control, release management, and verifying before shipping come from.

Most of my work now is AI engineering: not the demo kind, but the kind that has to hold up. Building a tutor that drives someone’s live software over an API teaches you fast that a plausible-sounding answer is worse than no answer. So I spend a lot of time on the boring foundations: grounding responses in real sources, verifying behaviour against a reference, and being able to prove a thing works rather than assuming it does.

The other half of my work is simpler and just as satisfying: building websites for people who need one. My favourite outcome there is when a client stops needing me, because their team can add a product line or update a bio themselves, without a support ticket. A site the owner cannot edit is a liability dressed up as an asset.

I am open to full-time roles, contract work, and freelance projects. If you are hiring, the work section is the fastest way to see how I think.
